SMART an umbrella organization of & for artisans established for their sustainable development with focus on marketing their products is a registered society and with direct intervention of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), NOIDA.

SMART helps in formation and empowerment of self-help groups / associations / societies / cooperatives of artisans for mainstreaming of their products in domestic and international markets. It also organizes training programmes for artisans for improving the quality of the end product. It promotes brand name of handicrafts and artisan products. It prepares, compile, publish and disseminate technical information relevant to the handicrafts and artisanal products.

SMART functions with a simple and clear motto of Artisans Development to Sustainability (ADS).

In the process, SMART has conducted several baseline surveys in various clusters of artisans producing ethnic footwear across,

	Punjab: namely Patilala, Bhatinda, Muktsar, Malot, Abohar, Fazilka Faridkot & Kotakpura
	Haryana: namely Rewari, Jind, Jhajjar, Karnal & Ambala districts
	Leh & Ladakh Region: namely Nubra Valley Block, Durbuk Block & Zanskar Block
	Himanchal Pradesh: namely Thunag Tehsil in Mandi District, Chirgaon Tehsil & Dodra-Kwar Tehsil in Shimla District
